The first edition of the Catalan Wine Week starts today with a wide range of activities to promote the wines made in Catalonia. The event, promoted by INCAVI with the collaboration of the denominations of origin of the territory, and which will be developed entirely in digital to comply with the security protocols established by the coronavirus crisis, will last throughout the week, offering up to seventy activities organized by different agents in the wine sector.

Denominations of origin will have an important weight throughout the week thanks to the Meet the DO’s section which, led by journalists Judith Cortina and David Jobé, will give voice to the presidents of each of the DOs, who will be accompanied by the winning winery of the Golden Wine Award of this 2020 edition of each of the DO.

The Denomination of Origin in charge of inaugurating the section will be the DO Costers del Segre. The interview with Tomàs Cusiné can be followed today, Monday the 9th, from 5:00 pm through the Wine TV Week, the space for information, opinion, debate and entertainment that will be broadcasting throughout the week. interviews, social gatherings, round tables … At 18:00 it will be the turn of Joan Huguet, president of the DO Penedès.

On Tuesday, at 17:00, Vicenç Ferré will talk about the DO Tarragona, and at 18:10 it will be the turn of the DO Pla de Bages by its president, Joan Soler. On Wednesday at 17:00, Joan Arrufí, president of the DO Terra Alta, will focus on his DO, and then, at 18:20, it will be the turn of the DO Conca de Barberà led by Bernat Andreu.

The DOQ Priorat (17: 00h) and the DO Catalunya (18: 50h) will be the protagonists of Thursday by its presidents, Salustià Alvarez and Xavier Pié respectively, while the final point will be put on Friday by the DO Empordà (17: 00h) and the DO Montsant (18: 20h) with the interviews to Xavier Albertí, president of Empordà, and Pilar Just, president of the DO Montsant.

Una àmplia oferta d’activitats 

In addition to the more television programming, the Wine Week has a wide program of activities organized by different agents of the sector and which are divided into five main axes: wine tourism, gastronomy and catering, commercial activities, culture and wine, and outreach activities.

In addition to the activities organized by many wineries under the designations of origin of the territory, some of the DOs also offer their own activities as part of the Week. Thus, the DO Montsant focuses on the professional public with the tasting Els #VinsMontsant as you have never tasted them. Two virtual tasting days to be held on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 and where participants will be able to taste up to ten references of Grenaches and Carines from different wineries and representatives of the six areas that make up the DO Montsant.

The same Friday 13, the DO Empordà organizes the activity Friday of stay with the DO Empordà. Chef Iolanda Bustos will cook some mushrooms stuffed with lentils and au gratin with cheese on a bed of sweet potatoes and pomegranates, and will pair the dish with two wines from the DO Empordà. The meeting can be followed through the DO’s Instagram profile and its YouTube channel.

On Saturday 14th, at 19:00, it will be the turn of the DO Catalunya which offers a live slam and wine session with the artist Salva Soler and exclusively for 30 people. To gain access to this activity, it will be necessary to demonstrate the purchase of a wine from the DO Catalunya using the purchase ticket, which will function as a virtual ticket to the show.
