420,000 euros for two wine barrels of 228 liters of Burgundy wine

Paying 420,000 euros for two wine barrels- of 228 liters each one- to sell 600 bottles of wine can be considered an excess. But, in Burgundy, if it is from Corton Clos du Roi, Baronne du Bay, and for a good cause, things may change. The two “pièces des présidents” of the auction of the wines of “les Hospices de Beaune”, were acquired by the Domaine Albert Bichot that will age this wine for two years in the same barrel and bottling them by 2019. 420,000 euros are paid for two barrels of 223 liters of Corton Clos du Roi, Baronne du Bay

The 157th Les Hospices de Beaune wine auction, held on Sunday November 19 in the town of Burgundy, amounted to 13,529,301 euros, setting a new record, since in the last edition of 2016 sales were only 8,4 millions; and it was in 2015 when an earlier maximum figure of 11.3 million euros was achieved. Natalie Lefort, from the Le Guinelle vineyard, has been working for nineteen years since 1999, producing natural vinegar surrounded by mountains and vineyards in Cosprons, the heart of the town of Port-Vendres on the Red Coast of the French department of the Pyrenees-Orientales.
